Many years ago, I met Judy Taylor at the Puyallup Fair and bought one of her Nantucket Rug Hooking kits. I fell in love with this historic craft, and the best part was being able to use my handspun wool yarn for more than just knitting and weaving.

I found this video today on YouTube featuring Judy. It was probably made sometime in the 90s, around the same time I bought the kit from her.

I also took a class from her at Madrona Fiber Arts. It’s great to learn from an artist who lives nearby. She lives out in Auburn, WA, about 20 miles from me.

So, go grab some tea, your spinning or knitting, and take a watch for the next 28 minutes. You might also want to start doing this wonderful craft as well.

Enjoy!

Hi, I’m Sherrill, The 1764 Shepherdess.
I’m a maker based in the Pacific Northwest. With a love of wool, I have hosted spinning and fiber events and now find myself writing to encourage makers to slow down, work with intention, and reconnect with the history of crafting by hand. I look forward to having you join me on this journey!
