To keep your spinning wheels operating smoothly, keep a spinning wheel maintenance/repair kit on hand.
With our weekly virtual Maker’s Meetup on zoom, the group has had a chance to meet other spinners from across the states and countries that normally would not happen. The one positive from a 21st century pandemic!
Susan Makuka, @fairygodspinner on Instagram, is one of those spinner’s that has joined the meetups from New Jersey. She’s holds a Certificate of Excellence in Spinning and is heavy into her local guild.
I asked Susan what would make up a good spinning maintenance/repair kit and this is what she suggested:
- Instructions for your particular spinning wheel
- Drive Band (cotton or poly)
- Cotton Q-tips
- Cotton Rags
- Paper Towel
- Footman Connectors (leather or poly)
- Scotch tension line
- Bee’s wax
- Oil (sewing machine)
- Screw drivers
- Tweezers
- Set of fine picks
- Screws
- O-rings
- Orifice hook
- Tension springs
- Flyer hooks
- Brake band
- Eye hooks
- Any other items specific to your wheel
