Carded Batts

IMG_2214

The batts are made from California Red fleece. I used my small picker, which I bought on Etsy a few years ago, to open up the locks and help it go through the drum carder faster.

This is a dangerous piece of equipment if someone gets their hand in the way while moving the picker back and forth. Note: I updated my tetanus shot in 2012.

I I used my Louet Jr drum carder to work through the massive pile of fluff I had created. It took me three days to finish those batts. To stay true to old traditions, I should have used my hand cards. It would have taken weeks to complete the prep process for spinning if I had used my hand cards this time.

Time to get a test spin in for the yarn I have in mind to create.

Stay tuned as we discover what the wool aims to become…
