#campspin15in20 News

Hey campers, camp begins in … well, the time is counting down so you can catch it as it ticks by.

Are you ready for our third annual virtual spinning camp? I sure hope so. It’s been a wild first half of the year and I hope we can find our camping weekend to be a grand time to relax and spin around the virtual campfire zoom meetings.

Camp runs July 31 through August 2, 2020.  Each day there is an assigned campfire zoom meeting time scheduled, with Saturday going a full 12 hours, allowing you to pop in and out as much or as little as you want.  Saturday is also the Sheep to Sweater competition for participating campers.  Don’t forget to read your competition sheet that was virtually included in your camp pack.  If you can’t find the email, you can log in to your account on my website and download it as many times as you like.

The competition requires 5 grams of fiber from your stash, not the camp pack fiber.  Use the camp pack fiber to spin and knit yourself the Save the Bees hat…it gets a bit cool out on the Puget Sound, even when kayaking near the shoreline.

There will be a few general gift-aways at the campfire zoom meetups, using a random number generator and the list of participating campers. One of the main gifts to be drawn for is the beautiful hand carved support spindle created by Allen Berry.  There are a few other gifts to be drawn for the general participating campers.

I’m still working on the Sheep to Sweater competition prizes, as there are four categories: spindle, spinning wheel, e-spinner and peoples choice.  Only one winner per category.   The prize packs will include a spindle stick, whorl, fiber and other goodies. Even if you don’t win this timestamped event, it’s about the fun of it and the cute ornament to get you started for your holiday tree this year. Win-win.

Packs are still available, but best to get one by July 24 (in the US) so it reaches you before camp starts.  Outside the US, probably no later than July 18…there are no guarantees with the current postal service due to the pandemic, so that may be cutting it close.

Thanks to all of this years participating campers that have helped support this #spin15aday event by joining in #campspin15in20.  It is events like this that support the website, gift-aways/postage and the zoom meeting platform for the weekly #spin15aday virtual spin-in.

If you haven’t joined us for one of the weekly virtual spin-in Friday nights, please give it a try.  We talk spinning, food, fiber, play fiber-related trivia and have a fun time.  We’ve had a few lessons on in-hand spindles, learned what the smallest sheep in the world is and just have fun. Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we show-n-tell and we’ve been known to talk over each other, but it’s all in good humor and keep it light and easy.  We also get loads of spinning done. Another win-win.  We certainly hope you will join in when you can. To get the secret squirrel meeting ID and password, just register here and it will be emailed to you.

We’ll see you at camp! (Don’t forget the marshmallows….chocolate, don’t forget that either…graham crackers are a plus)
