#spin15in15 Spinner Spotlight: @krystlepye

This week’s spotlight is on Krystle, @krystlepye:

KP

Q. Favorite fiber to spin? Krystle: Falkland is my current favorite. It has enough grip to it to not be taxing, and is still soft enough to feel cozy when all knit up.

Q. Do you prefer worsted or woolen methods of spinning? Krystle: I would prefer to spin perfectionistic worsted yarn, but I am branching out and learning to appreciate the goodness of smooshy woolen spun yarns.

Q. Who or what inspires you? Krystle: I am a constant sponge for inspiration in many aspects of my life… they all sort of run together in my head at the end of the day.  I am drawn to contrast and asymmetry.

Q. Any future spinning goals? Krystle: I want to be a well rounded spinner, so I am taking the time to learn about different fibers and preparing them to really get the knowledge into my hands.  I would like to work through sampling many breeds of wool, and I plan to spend some time toying around with and sampling different amounts of spin and ply in my yarns.

Q. Do you knit, weave, or gift/sell your handspun? Krystle: I knit with my handspun as often as I can now! I also have plans to build a simple loom and play with weaving. My fiber activities time is quite limited these days, so I tend to be a rather selfish knitter/spinner. I have ruined too many hobbies by turning them into a business or obligation, so I am holding this one a little closer and purely working on what I want to, when I want to.  It`s a necessary escape/release for me.

Q. What has Instagram done for you in spinning? Krystle: I tend to hop from hobby to hobby, craft to craft, on about a three month cycle…(squirrel!) And instagram (and #spin15in15 specifically) has helped me to work through the inevitable ennui that would strike at about this point actually.  I really want to build some skill in spinning, so that little reminder of seeing everyone’s #spin15in15 come up in my feed is a great encouragement to just give it that little bit of time each day and be able to reap the benefit of the practice and commitment.

Q. Without spinning, what might your other passions be? Krystle: Music is in my soul, so I would probably pick up another instrument. I also do some work in metalsmithing and jewelry making.

If you haven’t seen much of Krystle’s work, go take a look on Instagram, @krystlepye

I want to thank Krystle for taking the time to answer these fiber-minded questions and for being part of the #spin15in15 movement on Instagram.

Spin on!
