This week’s spotlight is on Larraine, @lschildress:
Q. Favorite fiber to spin? Larraine: BFL, Targhee, Polwarth, Falkland, Sheland.
Q. Do you prefer worsted or woolen methods of spinning? Larraine: Worsted, short backward draw.
Q. Who or what inspires you? Larraine: My spinning and knitting mates on Instagram and Ravelry.
Q. Any future spinning goals? Larraine: I have two Shetland fleeces that need to be washed once the weather warms up, then it’s on to learning the rest of the process.
Q. Do you knit, weave, or gift/sell your handspun? Larraine: Lately my knitting projects have been with my handspun. I confess to having two under-used looms that need to be used sooner than later. I gift what I make and occasionally think about selling.
Q. What has Instagram done for you in spinning? Larraine: Through Instagram, I’ve found a huge spinning community who inspire me on a daily basis, are willing to share their knowledge, are full of encouragement and are great enablers.
Q. Without spinning, what might your other passions be? Larraine: I recently took an online course called Design, Carve, Print: Block Printing on Fabric with Jen Hewitt. So much fun! I need to get back to gardening and fishing.
If you haven’t seen much of Larraine’s work, go take a look on Instagram, @lschildress
I want to thank Larraine for taking the time to answer these fiber-minded questions and for being part of the #spin15in15 movement on Instagram.
Spin on!
